Can you guess where this hotel is? Trick question. It's just outside Central Square, in the University Park biotech-research complex. And yes, that's adjacent to the MIT campus. The eight-story building, which has a supermarket on its second floor, looks a bit forbidding from the street but encloses a lovely courtyard. Rooms with a view of the greenery are preferable to those facing the street, and all seamlessly integrate hospitality and technology; guests can even send documents to a networked laser printer from their rooms. Rooms themselves are spacious enough to hold a small seating area, oversize desk, and decent-size bathroom. The unusual color scheme incorporates medium-tone woods, dark neutrals, and subtle patterns -- including a frenzy of equations printed on the quilt across the foot of the bed. That offbeat spirit extends to the decorative accessories in the public spaces, which include robots in the lobby. The only sizable lodging close to lively Central Square, this hotel primarily attracts visitors to MIT and the tech-oriented businesses that cluster around it. Hilton operates the hotel, which opened in 1998 and was renovated in 2004.
