Hotel du Vin Review

This stylish Anglo-French run hotel is one of Bristol's best examples of recycling. Six 18th-century sugar-refining warehouses, lying in the vicinity of the docklands, were taken over and sensitively restored into this inviting small hotel. Today, you'll find a series of "loft-style" bedrooms with superb beds covered in soft Egyptian linen. Each of the accommodations comes with a well-maintained and state-of-the-art bathroom with what management prefers to call "serious" showers (read: large). As much as possible, the original industrial features of the warehouses have been retained for dramatic effect. Even if you're not a guest, you may want to visit for a drink in the Sugar Bar or a first-class meal in the contemporary French restaurant. For such a small hotel, the wine cellar here is most impressive, and specially staged wine tastings and dinners are frequent events throughout the year.

Restaurant; 2 bars; library; room service

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
