If you remember the fountain on the castle with King Matthias from the 15th century, who came across a maiden in the woods and then fell in love, you will recognize Ilona as the maiden. Szép means beautiful and as legend has it, this love tryst happened where this restaurant is now located. Once styled in Socialist-outdated, it has been completely revamped inside and out creating a romantic or relaxing dining experience. We were thrilled to see the changes when we brought our visiting friend. The food continues to be served in hearty, delicious portions. When weather permits, sit on the terrace. For a starter, I cannot resist the Hortobagy pancakes, meat wrapped in a thin crepe with a creamy paprika sauce poured over the top finished by a dollop of sour cream. The pork with Julienne vegetables and the pork with Hungarian noodles were tenderly cooked to perfection. Although located in a Buda neighborhood that is a bit of a trek to reach, the food is scrumptious and sitting under the trees is relaxing.
