Frommer's Review
A faithful reproduction of a vintage coffeehouse, this large, airy establishment was created decades after a coffeehouse of the same name closed its doors. It marked one of the early efforts to bring back the lively coffee-shop life of the capital, as the Lukács has been operating since 1912 on the grand Andrássy boulevard. It is just a few minutes' walk from Oktogon, and not far away from Heroes' Square. It is a perfect stop on a stroll from downtown to the Museum of Fine Arts or a walk in the City Park. This is more of a quiet hideaway, less frequented than most traditional coffeehouses, but the ambience is peaceful and made all the more comfy with the piano player's soothing notes. A drawback of the Lukács is that it shares its entrance with a bank. Nevertheless, it is a great place to sit in air-conditioned splendor and write postcards over a long, slow cup of joe.
