Frommer's Review
The brainchild of chef Lajos Takács, this is a beautifully decorated and conceived venue. Within the restaurant there is a contemporary art gallery and a separate piano bar. We visited the gallery while waiting for our main course, and wandered off to the piano bar for a romantic candlelit dessert and coffee. Let your imagination venture, and you could be sitting in Rick's American Café from the classic film Casablanca. This restaurant wins big when it comes to the space, its design and conception. A great place for a date! When it comes to the culinary delights served here, the restaurant makes a rare attempt at "new" Hungarian cuisine. The food is beautifully presented, and game is served with fruit, and unusual sauces are blended and experimented with. The only problem is that the dishes lack the zest of the traditional fare, and in their foray into re-creation, end up being a tad bland. We ate fresh goat cheese with chives, for instance, which lacked flavor but made for a beautiful display. The mangalica pork with lemon sauce was tasty and even a tad exotic with fruit added to the mix. The waiters were truly kind; reserved, somewhat awkward folk trying to be charismatic. Jankó is a suave place, with great potential.
