Frommer's Review
The Béke Radisson, situated not far from the Nyugati Railway Station on Pest's Outer Ring (Nagykörút), carries on a tradition of fine hotels in this location. In 1914 the Art Nouveau Hotel Brittania opened on the same spot as one of the most modern Budapest hotels of its time. Unfortunately, the hotel was badly damaged in World War II, and it was not until 1955 that it was reopened under the hopeful name Béke (meaning "peace"). (The hotel was restored again in 1985.) Rooms are smartly furnished in dark wood, with plush carpeting and curtains; the style is self-consciously luxurious. Unfortunately, the soundproof windows don't quite muffle all the noise from the busy boulevard below. The hotel has a few restaurants, which charmingly retain their old-style atmosphere. The elegant Szondi Restaurant (named after a Hungarian hero who fought the Turks) serves Hungarian/International dinners accompanied by Gypsy music. The bright, friendly Shakespeare Restaurant serves breakfast and lunch when the Szondi is full. The intimate Kupola Bar serves drinks under a gorgeous stained glass cupola (from the original hotel), while the Zsolnay Cafe's delicious pastries are served on hand-painted Zsolnay porcelain. Pets are welcome throughout the hotel.
