Frommer's Review
Turn-of-the-20th-century Hotel Nemzeti, just off Blaha Lujza Square, underwent a 1987 restoration that reinstated much of the hotel's Art Nouveau splendor. This is one of Pest's most handsome historic hotels in its category, although rooms are a bit dated and commercial feeling. Its biggest drawback is its location; though very centrally located, the hotel directly overlooks what is perhaps the busiest square on the Outer Ring. Half the rooms face the heavily trafficked street (and the soundproofing does not mask the noise), while the other half face a lovely interior courtyard (request one of these!). The rooms, which were recently renovated a few years ago, have high ceilings and spacious bathrooms. Take the elevator to the top (fifth) floor for the largest and most interesting rooms, with slanted ceilings and funky windows. There are two nonsmoking floors, but no rooms equipped for guests with disabilities. The hotel's restaurant is topped with a stained-glass ceiling and retains that turn-of-the-20th-century ambience found throughout the hotel. In 2006 the restaurant will be renovated and turned into a less formal, more modern bistro-style eatery. There's also a small lobby bar, and guests can use fitness facilities at a sister hotel.
