Frommer's Review

Centrally located next to Deák tér and the Kempinski, Le Meridien is part of Budapest's new group of five-star hotels. From the outside, the classical smooth white stone building that was the Communist-era police headquarters looks rather austere. Beautifully renovated before it opened at the end of 2002, the interior is luxurious with fine architectural details throughout, including hallways surrounded by wrought-iron railings overlooking the stained-glass dome topping the breakfast area below, a lobby full of Corinthian pillars and plush leather and corduroy sofas. Guest rooms are equally elegant with thick plush carpeting, gorgeous fabrics, mahogany furniture, and bathrooms fitted with marble floors and sink tops, and separate tubs and showers. Le Bourbon restaurant and its French chef serve excellent French cuisine, and Friday night is "Hungarian Night" with Hungarian food and a folk music show. The 8th-floor spa and fitness room -- topped with a glass ceiling, full of natural light, and lined with elegant mosaic ceramic tile -- is quite big for a hotel of this size.

Facilities: 2 restaurants; bar; indoor swimming pool; sauna; steam bath; massage; exercise room; concierge; tour desk; business center; conference facilities; salon; 24-hr. room service; babysitting; laundry service; wireless Internet on conference floor; currency exchange.
