Though the city's hockey team, the Buffalo Sabres, is in danger of being sold, right now the city boasts about professional hockey and football. When the Sabres aren't on strike, they play downtown at the HSBC Center, 1 Seymour H. Knox III Plaza (tel. 716/888-4000; www.sabres.com).
