A hip restaurant in downtown's busiest area, Bacchus is indeed a wine mecca, offering more than 200 bottles, all available by the glass, in a crowded, sometimes noisy space that combines a bar with a chic candlelit dining room. You can order delicious larger plates of lamb, filet, or sea bass, but the culinary ingenuity is best found in the small plates. They're larger than traditional tapas plates (two per person will do) and may trade the typical Spanish flair for a decidedly Asian one, like the seared ahi tuna with chilled Asian noodle salad and wasabi. Dishes span the rainbow of flavors, from fried brie to thyme-infused seared sea scallops. Crowds form early, but a wait at the classy bar is hardly a bore.
