The Roycroft Inn Review

In its current form, this small country inn was opened in 1995, but the property dates from 1895, when the Roycroft Arts and Crafts Community was founded by Elbert Hubbard. Hubbard's self-contained community supported hundreds of craftspeople, and this inn housed some of the many thousands of talented artists and artisans who traveled here from around the world. Common areas are intimately rustic, with lots of exquisite Roycroft originals that you're actually allowed to sit on. Though guest rooms aren't huge, they're hardly cramped; in fact, they feel rather airy, with their spare, clean lines and simple wicker furniture. A touch of history is in all of them -- they're outfitted with at least one original Roycroft piece, plus some reproductions that lend a distinguished air to your stay. But there's nothing stuffy about the place -- it's comfy and thoroughly modern, as are the sizable bathrooms. The restaurant is fantastic and listed separately, below.

Facilities:
Restaurant; access to nearby health club; limited room service

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
