Car ferries chug across the often placid, sometimes turbulent waters of Lake Champlain from Burlington to New York between late spring and foliage season, a good way to cut out miles of driving if you're heading west toward the Adirondacks. It's also a great way to see the lake and mountains on a pleasant, inexpensive cruise. Between June and mid-October, several daily 90-minute narrated lake cruises are also offered; the cost is $8.95 to $13 for adults, and up to $7.95 for children. Ferries also cross Lake Champlain between Grande Isle, Vermont, and Plattsburgh, New York (year-round), and Charlotte, Vermont, and Essex, New York (Apr to early Jan). Call the number below for more information.
