Lang House ReviewThis stately, white Queen Anne mansion (1881) sits on the hillside between downtown and the University of Vermont. Not as extravagant as the similar Willard Street Inn, it's nevertheless comfortably appointed and almost lavish with rich cherry and maple woodwork. Rooms vary, though most have small bathrooms and small TVs; two of the best rooms are corner units: No. 101, on the first floor, has a wonderfully old-fashioned bathroom with wainscoting, while no. 202 has a cozy sitting area tucked into the turret that gets lots of afternoon light. Breakfast is largely organic (even the maple syrup) and quite good. The B&B has a liquor license, and can sell you a bottle of wine or beer. It also has a special connection to the university nearby, too -- the owner and her son are both graduates. Note: This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
