If you've arrived in Cádiz without a car, there's a local company that, for a per-person rate of 10€ ($13), will take you around selected sections of both the new and the old city as part of a bus tour that lasts -- if you opt to remain on the same bus and not get off -- about an hour. You can begin your tour at any of the points at which the company stops, and then get back on again, catching the next tour by waiting at any of the officially designated stops. The most convenient and easy-to-find starting point lies directly opposite Cádiz's railway station (bus no. 2 or 7), near the cruise-ship facilities of the Old Town, at Plaza de Sevilla.
Tours begin every day of the year at 10am and continue until at least 5:30pm and, if business is good, till as late as 8:30pm every day. Note that the company's cream-and-green-painted double-decker buses, like most motorized vehicular traffic in Cádiz, stick to a predefined itinerary that encircles the city's perimeter, but they don't venture into the claustrophobically narrow inner neighborhoods of the Old Town. Included, however, in the price of the bus tour is a brief walking tour of some of the inner sections of the Old Town, which, with guided Spanish and, to a lesser extent, English-language commentary, lasts about 40 minutes. Beginning and ending at the Plaza San Juan de Dios, the walking tour includes a visit to the city's baroque cathedral.
