Frommer's Review
This restaurant, 6.5km (4 miles) north of Caen, occupies a 17th-century monastery with an enclosed Norman garden. It's one of Normandy's most famous and charming inns, and a magnet for Parisians seeking a rustically elegant getaway. Many dishes are twists on Norman favorites, such as cider-cooked lobster with Nantua sauce, delicately flavored sea bass, and filet of monkfish poached in port. Beef filets are stuffed with foie gras, scallops are braised in the local apple-based liqueur pommeau, and filets of turbot and sea bass are served on the same platter and drenched in champagne sauce. For dessert, try tarte Normande flambéed with Calvados.
The manor also offers 15 rooms in a stone-sided annex. Each has a garden view, bathroom with tub, TV, minibar, and phone. A double goes for 90€ to 115€ ($131-$167). Rooms were overhauled and upgraded in the late 1990s, with improvements in the mattresses, furnishings, and fabrics. The hotel lies very close to Pegasus Bridge, one of the first strategic targets liberated by Allied soldiers after the invasion of Normandy in 1944.

| 0 stars | Frommer's Recommended | |
| 1 stars | Frommer's Highly Recommended | |
| 2 stars | Frommer's Very Highly Recommended | |
| 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
