HotelsCamagüey has an appealing supply of attractive and affordable hotels -- most owned and operated by the Cuban Islazul chain -- and several have undergone extensive restorations that have brought back their old-world charm. For visitors interested in homestays, the city also provides a host of excellent private accommodations. Inexpensive Recommended casas particulares include Casa Manolo Banegas, Calle Independencia 251, between Hermanos Agüero and General Gómez (tel. 32/29-4606), a gorgeous first-floor flat stuffed with objets d'art, including an ancient Rigonda Bolshoi radio and quite possibly the largest hat stand in the world. The rooms are lovely; the first has a large bronze bed and the second has two large beds and white furniture. Both have private bathrooms, although, as it is a colonial house, they are not en suite. A wraparound balcony and its great central location complete the appeal. Casa Manolo, Santa Rita 18, between República and Santa Rosa (tel. 32/29-4403; yohsbany@hotmail.com), is run by a friendly, welcoming household and has two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms; one is larger with a bathtub, the other with shower. Casa Xiomara & Rodolfo, Oscar Primelles 615, between Lugareño and San Ramón (tel. 32/28-1948; cubarentur@gmail.com), has an amazingly large and well-equipped apartment that's a very nice option for two couples or a family traveling together. Casa Los Vitrales, Calle Avellaneda 3, between General Gómez and Martí (tel. 32/29-5866; requejobarreto@gmail.com), is a centrally located casa run by a very helpful family. The rooms are spacious and quiet and the breakfasts are very filling.
