Getting There

Frequent train service arrives from Victoria, Charing Cross, Waterloo, and London Bridge stations. The journey takes 1 1/2 hours. For rail information, call tel. 0845/748-4950 or visit www.nationalrail.co.uk.

The bus from Victoria Coach Station takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours and leaves every hour. For schedules, call tel. 0870/580-8080 or visit www.nationalexpress.com.

If you're driving from London, take the A2, then the M2. Canterbury is signposted all the way. The city center is closed to cars, but it's only a short walk from several parking areas to the cathedral.

Visitor Information

A few doors from St. Margaret's Church, the Canterbury Tourist Information Centre, 12-13 Sun St., Canterbury CT1 2HX (tel. 01227/378100; www.canterbury.co.uk), is generally open Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm (closes at 4pm off season).

Getting Around By Bike

Using your credit card as a security deposit, you can also arrange rentals at Downland Cycle Hire, St. Stephens Rd. (tel. 01227/479643; www.downlandcycles.co.uk), which charges from £12 ($24) per day.
