Getting There
Driving is the most convenient way to get to Carnac. From Pont-Aven, travel east along N165, passing through Hennebont. At the intersection with D768, continue south along the signposted road to Carnac. From Lorient, take N165 east to Auray, and turn south on D768 to Carnac.
Links to Carnac by public transport are inconvenient, as there's no SNCF railway station in town. Instead, travelers, depending on the origin of their train and the season, get off the SNCF network at either Quiberon or Auray, two nearby towns, both of which lie on the SNCF lines. An additional option, available only between June and August, involves getting off in the hamlet of Plouharnel-Carnac, 3km (2 miles) from Carnac. From any of the above-mentioned towns, buses make between two and seven departures per day for the center of Carnac. One-way transit into Carnac by bus from any of the above-mentioned hamlets ranges from 4€ to 5.50€ ($5.80-$8) per person, depending on the point of origin. Know in advance that the SNCF itself will usually advise you, when you buy your ticket to Carnac from other points throughout France, which of the above-mentioned hamlets is the most convenient for your descent.
