Introduction to Chartres

97km (60 miles) SW of Paris, 76km (47 miles) NW of Orléans

An hour south of Paris, amid a sea of wheat fields, rises the city of Chartres. Crowned with one of the world's most breathtaking cathedrals and quaint historic center, it gives visitors the perfect glimpse of a quintessential French town. In a half-day excursion you'll be captivated by the splendid Notre-Dame, spend a full day to explore the local farmers market, enjoy a lunch of pâté de Chartres before wandering along its medieval laneways, or visiting its lovely Fine Arts Museum.
