Planning a Trip

Getting There -- To reach Châteauneuf-du-Pape, you must take one of three daily buses from Avignon, a journey of less than 30 minutes. Châteauneuf does not have a bus station; you are deposited at place de la Bascule, behind the local post office. This is also where you catch buses returning to Avignon. The tourist office is the best source for schedules and information about bus access.

If you're driving from Avignon, head north on A7 to the intersection with Route 17, at which point you continue northwest following the signs into Châteaneuf-du-Pape.

Visitor Information -- The Office de Tourisme is at place du Portail (tel. 04-90-83-71-08; www.ccpro.fr). Summer hours are 9:30am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday. Winter hours are 9:30am to 12:30pm and 2 to 6pm Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday to Saturday.

A Special Event -- Since the Middle Ages, the annual Fête de la Véraison has been held in early August. See details below.
