Frommer's Review
Canada-born Susan McKenna Grant and her husband, Michael, bought this historic pile at the turn of the millennium and, with the help of historians, horticulturalists and a whopping investment, turned it into an astounding, high-end agriturismo, a monument to haute cuisine and low-impact living. They grow rare species of fruit trees and every imaginable herb and vegetable, keep their own bees, raise the famous cinta senese pig, and collect eggs every morning. In sum, they rely on their own land for breakfasts, lunches, and dinners that are beyond compare, thanks to Susan's expertise as a Europe-trained chef. The cuisine and the peaceful garden are the attractions here, in an otherwise isolated farm. It sits on Chianti's highest point, with views to Volpaia to the west and Siena on the southern horizon.
