Head for the old town of Colmar, particularly rue de Clefs, Grand' Rue, rue des Têtes, and rue des Marchands.
Antiques abound, and you'll find a large grouping of stores in the old town, especially along rue des Marchands. Shops that deserve particular attention include Geismar Dany, 32 rue des Marchands (tel./fax 03-89-23-30-41), specializing in antique painted furniture, and Antiquités Guy Caffard, 56 rue des Marchands (tel. 03-89-41-31-78; www.caffard-antiquites.com), with its mishmash of furniture, postcards, books, toys, bibelots, and the like. Also worth noting are Lire & Chiner, 36 rue des Marchands (tel. 03-89-24-16-78; www.lire-et-chiner.fr), and Antiquité Arcana, 13 place l'Ancienne Douane (tel. 03-89-41-59-81).
One of the most appealing stores is Arts et Collections d'Alsace, 1 rue des Tanneurs (tel. 03-89-24-09-78), which offers copies of art objects and utilitarian wares of yesteryear. There are items for the home and kitchen, made from wrought iron, pottery, glass, copper, carved wood, and fabric.
