It’s set in an elegant room, lit by Art Nouveau fixtures, and crossed by aged-wood beams. The fare consists of sophisticated versions of classic Alsatian dishes like paté en croute, and baeckeoffe (casserole of potatoes in a marinade of beef, pork, and lamb). Serious foodies choose dinner at Restaurant Girardin which has a number of inventive tasting menus, including one for vegetarians, a rarity in these parts (it’s called“Journey in the Vegetable World”). It has a more contemporary ambiance.
You can also stay in one of the 21 rooms featuring crisp modern furniture juxtaposed against the charming historic features of the building—the suites even have Jacuzzis. Rates start at 250€ for a standard room and 350€ for a deluxe.
