Relais Il Falconiere Review

Riccardo and Silvia Baracchi have turned a series of 17th-century buildings into a countryside idyll overlooking their own olive grove to the Valdichiana. The rooms are scattered between the main villa, two flanking the little chapel, and seven very large rooms and minisuites in a series of stone buildings a bit removed from the rest of the complex for some privacy. Each guest room is different, many with worn terra-cotta-tiled floors, cast-iron canopied bed frames, hand-woven linens, antique-style furnishings, timbered ceilings, hydromassage tubs, and frescoes on some of the walls. The property is landscaped with gardens, olive groves, grapevines, a chapel, and two pools. Quiet reigns supreme. The old limonaia (lemon house) has been converted into one of the best restaurants in the area.

Facilities:
Restaurant (recommended separately below); babysitting; free bike rentals; concierge; 2 pools; room service

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
