Frommer's Review
This inn has served up spirits for over 650 years. The ground-floor restaurant and bar are done in cozy, contemporary pine, so if you are in a medieval mood, head downstairs to the cellar, where a deep-set window overlooks Kieran's Well, which predates the inn itself, and where the original stone pillars still reach from floor to ceiling. This was once the home of Dame Alice Kyteler, a colorful character who made the tavern into a den of merrymaking. She also laid four husbands to rest in the Kilkenny graveyard. She was tried for being a witch and condemned to burn at the stake, but escaped and was never heard from again. You may feel Alice's presence in the cellar, thanks to a life-size doll of her overseeing the proceedings.
