Planning a Trip

Getting There

If you're driving from Paris, take A6 to Lyon, then A42 to Chambéry, and then A430 to Albertville. At Albertville, take N90 to Moutiers, and then follow the narrow roads 915 and 75 into Courchevel. Courchevel 1850 is the last stop on a steep alpine road that dead-ends at the village center. Roads are open year-round, but driving can be treacherous during snowstorms. To go any higher, you'll have to take a cable car from the center of town. Most visitors drive here (you'll need snow tires and chains), but some buses link the city to railway junctions farther down the mountain.

The nearest train station is in Moutiers Salins. From Paris's Gare de Lyon, five trains per day leave for Moutiers. The high-speed TGV covers the distance from Paris to Chambéry in about 3 hours. In Chambéry, transfer for Moutiers. From the station in Moutiers, a 1-hour bus trip completes the journey to Courchevel. There are five buses per day Monday through Friday and 15 per day on Saturday and Sunday costing between 9.50€ to 12€ ($14-$17).

The nearest international airport is at Geneva. From there, you can catch a bus to Courchevel. There are three buses per day Monday through Friday and eight on Saturday and Sunday. The 4-hour ride costs 70€ ($102) one-way. From the airport at Lyon, there are three to five buses a day to Courchevel; the 4-hour trip costs 65€ ($94) one-way.

Visitor Information

The Office de Tourisme, at La Croisette in the heart of town (tel. 04-79-08-00-29; fax 04-79-08-15-63; www.courchevel.com), provides information on skiing and each of the four Courchevel ski towns.
