Frommer's Review
This restored restaurant and bar is built on a hilltop overlooking Willemstad in the ruins of a buttressed fort dating from 1796. Inside, Fort Nassau has retained an 18th-century decor; outside, from the Battery Terrace, a 360-degree panorama of the sea, the harbor, and Willemstad unfolds. You can stop by the chic bar just to enjoy a drink and watch the sunset.
Queen Beatrix and Crown Prince Claus of the Netherlands have dined here, and rumor has it they were more captivated by the view than by the food. We are impressed with the perfectly prepared filet of grouper. Watch out for the cream of mustard (yes, that's right) soup -- an acquired taste. Opt for the pan-fried filet of red snapper, or even a well-prepared steak with garlic-infused mashed potatoes. Also good are oven-roasted rack of lamb with pickled red onions and almond potatoes, and the caramelized filet of salmon on a bed of creamy leeks with fried polenta and plantain.
