This open-air restaurant, in a 200-year-old mansion on the beachfront of Willemstad, offers superb dining in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. The beachfront Schooner Bar, where you can enjoy rum punch, is shaped like a weather-beaten ship's prow looking out to sea. The restaurant, sheltered by an arbor of flamboyant branches, serves such specialties as pickled herring, smoked salmon, and a Danish lunch platter. Local dishes, such as keshi yena (baked Gouda cheese with a spicy chicken filling), are also on the menu. On Saturday night there's a mixed grill and a serve-yourself salad bar, all accompanied by live music. The fish is always fresh, and the chef prepares it to perfection, whether grilled, poached, or meunière.
