Planning a Trip

Arriving

By Train -- The train station is at Fontainhas (tel. 808/208-208), about 3km (2 miles) north of the city. Local buses connect the station to Praça da República, in the center. Four trains a day make the 5 1/2-hour trip from Lisbon. The one-way fare is 15€.

By Bus -- The bus station is at Praça 25 do Abril (tel. 26/862-28-75). Four buses per day make the 4-hour trip from Lisbon. The one-way fare is 12€. Two buses daily make the 2-hour trip from Évora. The one-way fare is 12€. From Badajoz, frequent buses run throughout the day. The ride takes 20 minutes.

By Car -- From Estremoz, continue east toward Spain along Route 4.

Visitor Information

The Elvas Tourist Office is on Praça da República (tel. 26/862-22-36). It's open Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm, Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 12:30pm and 2 to 5:30pm.
