Frommer's Review
U.K.-born ex-DJ Louis McIntosh's Dar Mernissi, named after the building's original owners, only opened in 2007 but has already become the house of choice for those looking to be in the thick of the medina. The relaxed and fun atmosphere attracts artists, musicians, and other creative types, who always seem to be popping in for a visit. The design of Dar Mernissi is different to most of those in the medina. The basementlike ground floor is a comfortable, chill-out room, and the first floor is like a self-contained apartment, complete with a marble-top kitchen counter where Louis has been known to show off his culinary skills. Black-and-white tile flooring is also a step away from the norm. It's only on the second floor that you'll find tradition in the form of a spacious salon with high ceilings and brightly colored Iraqi glass -- although even here you'll find a larger-than-life picture of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, Louis' friend and long-time Morocco fan. Rooms -- three with private bathrooms -- are spread out over three levels, one with a small private garden. A refurbished split-level rooftop terrace of beige-and-green zellij, complete with its own shallow, zellij-tile lounging pool, affords a great view of the busy life down below on Tala'a Sghira.
