Frommer's Review
This is a popular choice for travelers wanting good-value rooms in an excellent location. The Hotel Batha has been around for years and was at one time the only accommodation of choice this far into the medina. It's a little frayed around the edges now but still manages to cling to some past grandeur. Rooms are a mix of bland [']80s furnishings with a splash of traditional zellij, and are a reasonable size with decent bathrooms. They all surround a large central courtyard and fountain that leads to a large, welcoming pool that affords some privacy when compared to other hotels. Also at this end of the property, in a building that was the British Consulate until 1989, is the Churchill lounge bar, which is a great spot during winter to sit in large leather armchairs in front of the fire with a glass of wine. Also located here is a restaurant serving Moroccan and international cuisine, but I recommend heading outside and eating elsewhere. At the rear, also accessible from Museum Street, is Le Consul bar, a lively place most nights and one of very few public places in the medina that serves alcohol. There's a steady stream of tour groups coming through here -- there's parking right outside the front door and always a few Fes guides waiting for business -- but in a hotel this big, it adds some atmosphere.
