Getting There
Take bus no. 7 from Florence, which after a scenic, 25-minute ride through the greenery above Florence, lets you off in the town's main square, Piazza Mino.
Visitor Information
The tourist office is at Piazza Mino 36-37 (tel. 055-598-720; fax 055-598-822; www.comune.fiesole.fi.it; Mon-Sat 8:30am-1:30pm). If the office is closed, as it sometimes is from October to Easter, there's another small office (tel. 055-596-1257) just to the left inside the 14th-century Palazzo Pretorio -- still the town hall whose loggia is covered in the coats of arms of Fiesole's past podestà -- at no. 26 at the top of the square.
Festivals & Markets
Fiesole's biggest event is cultural: 2 months of music, ballet, film, and theater from late June to August called the Estate Fiesolana. Cooling off from the Florentine heat has never been more pleasant as you sit back under the stars in the restored 1st-century-A.D. Roman theater and listen to Mozart and Verdi. You can get information and tickets in Florence at Box Office or at the Roman Theater itself after 4:30pm the day of the show. The Festa di San Romulo on July 6 brings processions and partying all day and fireworks in the evening. Call tel. 055-59-611 for info. There's a market every Saturday in Piazza Mino.
