Frommer's Review

As central as you can get, the Calzaiuoli offers comfortable, well-appointed rooms on the main strolling drag halfway between the Uffizi and the Duomo. The halls' rich runners lead up a pietra serena staircase to the midsize and largish rooms decorated with painted friezes and framed etchings. Rooms include stylish wood furnishings and mirrored armoires. The firm beds rest on patterned carpets, in the older rooms surrounded by functional furniture beginning to show some wear. The bathrooms range from huge to cramped, but all have fluffy towels (and a few have Jacuzzis). The rooms overlook the street, with its pedestrian carnival and some of the associated noise, or out the back -- either over the rooftops to the Bargello and Badia towers or up to the Duomo's cupola.
