Frommer's Review
This clean hotel in a 15th-century palazzo is run by the Lombardis, one of Florence's nicest families. It's patronized by a host of regulars who know a good value when they find it. The Lombardis bicker among themselves Italian style but are amazingly accommodating toward guests -- their favorite phrase in English is "No problem!" They even offer a free museum ticket to everyone who stays at least 3 nights (and with admissions running nearly $10 for most major museums, that's saying something). The tiny frescoed bar room was, from 1851 to 1855, part of an apartment inhabited by Gioacchino Rossini, legendary composer of The Barber of Seville and The William Tell Overture. The rooms ramble on toward the back forever, overlooking the gardens and Florentine rooftops, and are mouse-quiet except for the birdsong. A few large family suites in back sleep four to five. The central location means some rooms (with double-paned windows) overlook busy Via Cavour, so for more quiet ask for a room facing the inner courtyard's magnolia tree. They serve an ample breakfast buffet in a frescoed dining room.
