Frommer's Review
The California is a good budget option on a lightly trafficked street near the Duomo. Rooms were completely overhauled in 2000-01 with stylish modern furnishings, richly colored bedspreads, and spanking new bathrooms -- a few with Jacuzzi tubs, and almost all with spacious marble sink counters. There are 18th-century fresco fragments and stuccoes on many of the ceilings, and breakfast is served on a flower-covered terrace in nice weather. A few of the rooms have balconies and views of the Duomo's cupola, and they offer good deals for families.
