Boat Tours
The traditional excursion is the schooner trip around the western side of the island. Scunasul Tours (tel. 048/3225-1806; www.scunasul.com.br) leaves from downtown Florianópolis, heading underneath the Hercílio Luz suspension bridge to the north bay. The tour visits two beautifully preserved fortresses on small islands. A lunch stop and time for a swim are included in this leisurely day on the water. Another great boat trip is a visit to the Ilha do Campeche, located off Praia do Campeche, on the eastern side of the island. The boat leaves from downtown and cruises south. Once at the island you will have time to hike, swim, or snorkel (additional cost is R$3/US$1.50/£.80 for a guide, R$15/US$7.50/£4 for snorkel equipment). Tours cost R$30 (US$15/£8) per person, free for children under 5; 5- to 12-year-olds pay half price.
