Pousada Penareia

Overlooking Armação Beach, this pousada is a labor of love by a dentist and an architect who simply fell in love with this part of the island. This 12-room pousada is perfect for more active travelers. The owners will happily lend you an inflatable kayak, a set of frescobol (a type of racquetball played on the beach), soccer balls, bikes, or provide you with hiking tips. The pousada itself is very pleasant. All rooms are very bright and spacious; the beds are very comfortable (new mattresses and box springs) and even the standard rooms feature a private veranda with a hammock (but no air-conditioning). The special rooms are a bit bigger and do have air-conditioning. The best rooms are the deluxe ones that come with a Jacuzzi tub, a TV/DVD- and CD-player and a large veranda with barbecue set. A few steps down from the pousada there is a wonderful deck overlooking the beach, the perfect sunrise spot!
