Johnny V's ReviewSouth Florida's favorite so-called Caribbean Cowboy, Chef Johnny Vinczencz, has moved around quite a bit -- from South Beach's Hotel Astor (twice!) to Delray Beach's Sundy House. But this Las Olas hot spot looks to be his final stop, and that's good news to all Johnny V's faithful foodies who will travel to the end of the earth to sample some of his barbecue and Caribbean-inspired contemporary cuisine. What that means is, sage-grilled Florida dolphin with rock shrimp plantain stuffing, lobster pan gravy, cranberry-mango chutney, baby green beans and carrots, and a slew of dishes you've likely never seen before. Once you've tasted his fare, you'll understand why a herd of hungry folks are extremely happy to have a place to satisfy their cravings for such gourmet grub. Barbra Streisand dined here while in town for her sold-out concerts in 2006 and couldn't stop singing the praises of Johnny V -- onstage during her show! She -- and Johnny -- were verklempt (falling over themselves with delight)! Chef Johnny has also opened a new, inexpensive eatery where nothing is over $20, including a delicious Philly cheesesteak sandwich with shaved rib-eye for $11. Smith & Jones Bar and Grill, 1313 Las Olas Blvd., will also feature live jazz and blues nightly. Note: This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice. | 2 stars | Frommer's Very Highly Recommended | |
| 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
