Harbor Beach Marriott Resort & Spa ReviewHarbor Beach is loaded with the same amenities as Pier 66, but has a more secluded setting on 16 oceanfront acres just south of Fort Lauderdale's "strip." Everything in this place is huge -- from the quarter-mile of private beach to the 8,000-square-foot pool and the $8-million, 22,000-square-foot European spa. Accommodations feature pillow-top bedding, marble, crown molding, and bathrooms with granite vanities, marble flooring, designer lighting, and wraparound mirrors. Most units open onto private balconies overlooking the pool, the city, the ocean, or the Intracoastal Waterway. The hotel's 3030 Ocean is an excellent seafood restaurant and raw bar helmed by Executive Chef Dean James Max with Chef Paula DaSilva as chef de cuisine, a finalist on the ruthless Gordon Ramsey reality show Hell's Kitchen; the Riva, a Mediterranean-style oceanfront eatery, is also top-notch. Return guests include many convention groups and families who enjoy the space and great location. The hotel's Surf Club, $45 half-day and $80 full day, includes lunch, provides arts and crafts, watersports and games to keep the young 'uns happily occupied. Speaking of watersports, this hotel has the most comprehensive list, from surfing to parasailing. Facilities: Note: This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice. | 2 stars | Frommer's Very Highly Recommended | |
| 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
