Planning a Trip

Visitor Information -- Pick up one of the helpful maps and a great regional brochure at the Franschhoek Tourism Bureau, on the main road through town (tel. 021/876-3603; www.franschhoek.org.za; Mon-Fri 9am-6pm, Sat-Sun 9am-4pm).

Getting Around -- The town is small enough to traverse on foot, but to visit the wine farms, you may need to hire a car, taxi, or specialist guide. For shuttle services, transfers, and general tours, contact Franschhoek Experience (tel. 083/234-4038) or Winelands Tours (tel. 082/774-2790), or use the Vineyard Hopper (tel. 083/301-6774; R175 per person) to get to four different wine farms. For wine-tasting expeditions on purebred Arab horses, contact Paradise Stables (tel. 021/876-2160; www.paradisestables.co.za; R450 includes wine tasting). A great way to get around is by bike; rent one from Manic Cycles (tel. 021/876-4956; www.maniccycles.co.za).
