Au Pied de Cochon
Centrally located at the heart of the Old Town, on the lane that leads downhill from the picturesque Place du Bourg-de-Four, Au Pied de Cochon is very much a Genevese institution that appeals to locals as well as tourists for its high-quality, hearty traditional fare. The setting is classic turn-of-the-century brasserie, with wood paneling, leather banquettes, white linen tablecloths, and mirrors; the first-class service is brisk and efficient. The main draw on the menu, as the name suggests, is a stuffed pig's trotter served with Madeira sauce and market vegetables but, for those with more conservative tastes, we also recommend the risotto with pan-fried duck liver and local Swiss sausage, or the traditional beef stew. The wine list has a choice of French and Swiss wines, served by the glass or the bottle, with a notable selection of excellent wines from the Geneva region.
