Genoa is geared more to business than to tourism, and as a result, decent inexpensive rooms are scarce. On the other hand, just about the only time the town is booked solid is during its annual boat show, the world's largest, in October. Except for the ones we include, avoid hotels in the old city, especially around the harbor -- most are unsafe and prefer to accommodate guests by the hour.
