Bookstores -- Genoa’s best source for English-language books and other media is Feltrinelli, Via Ceccardi, 16, near Piazza De Ferrari, just off of Via XX Settembre ([tel] 010-573-331; www.lafeltrinelli.it).

Drugstores -- Pharmacies keep extended hours on a rotating basis; dial [tel] 192 to learn which ones are open late in a particular week. Several that are usually open overnight are Pescetto, Via Balbi 185r ([tel] 010-246-2697), across from Stazione Principe; Ghersi, Corte Lambruschini 16 ([tel] 010-541-661); and Europa, Corso Europa 676 ([tel] 010-397-615).

Emergencies -- The general emergency number is [tel] 113. If you require police assistance, call [tel] 118. If you have car trouble, call ACI, Soccorso Stradale [tel] 116. All of these are free calls.

Hospitals -- The Ospedale San Martino, Largo Rosanna Benzi 10 ([tel] 010-5551), offers a variety of medical services.

Internet -- 1PC4YOU, Piazza Durazzo 12/N ([tel] 010-868-8969), has 30 computer stations, charges 5[eu] per hour, and stays open Monday afternoon to Saturday morning, from 9:30am to 12:30pm and 3:30 to 7:30pm.

Laundry -- There is a self-service laundromat called, simply, Lavanderia Self-Service, at Via Gramsci 181r ([tel] 340-235-1492), open from 9am to 6pm, closed Sunday and Wednesday. Small washing machines and driers are 3.50€ per load, large ones 6€.

Post Offices -- Genoa’s main post office is at Piazza Dante 4 ([tel] 010-591-762). This office, as well as those at the two train stations, the airport, and elsewhere around the city, is open Monday through Saturday 8:10am to 7:40pm.

Travel Services -- CTS, Via San Vincenzo 117/R ([tel] 010-564-366 or 010-532-748), specializes in budget travel. It’s open Monday to Friday 9am to 1pm and 2:30 to 6pm.
