Frommer's Review
Near Stazione Brignole, this family-run pensione occupies the high-ceilinged large rooms of what was once a grand apartment. And it offers unusually pleasant accommodations at very reasonable rates -- a rarity in Genoa. Marco, the young proprietor, gives a gracious welcome, pointing guests to nearby restaurants, telling them what not to miss, and joining them in the communal sitting room; self-service espresso is available around the clock. The rooms are indeed baronial in size (some can be set up with extra beds for families) and are reached by elegant halls hung with gilt mirrors and paintings. While the eclectic furnishings are a bit less grand, many retain lovely touches, like a stuccoed ceiling here (in most, actually) or a chandelier there. The beds are firm and comfortable, the linens are fresh, and the TVs are hooked up with Telepiù (Italy's equivalent of HBO, with movies often in English). The shared facilities are spotless. Two technically bathroomless accommodations have a shower in the room, but you must share the hall toilets.
