The Best Architectural Landmarks

  • Glasgow School of Art: Architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh's global reputation rests in large part on his magnificent Glasgow School of Art, which is still used by students and is open for guided tours. It's a highlight of a Mackintosh heritage trail, which draws legions of fans to Glasgow. Nearby is another Mackintosh landmark, the Willow Tea Rooms.
  • Holmwood House: On the city's Southside, this villa is probably the best example of Alexander "Greek" Thomson's innovative style as applied to stately Victorian mansions. Magnificently original, its restoration (which is ongoing) has revealed that the architect was concerned with almost every element of the house's design.
