It's hard to miss the hanging baskets and creeping ivy of this hotel on one of the main avenues from the city center to the West End. Only a short walk to the University or Kelvingrove Park and the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, the Argyll lives up to its Scottish name -- full of tartan and the like. You almost expect this traditional feel to be part of a Highland lodge rather than urban inn. There is a clutch of spacious family rooms, and one double has a firm four-poster bed and corner-filling bathtub. Sutherlands is the basement restaurant with a seasonally changing menu. The Argyll also hosts "Mackintosh in Style Weekends" where guests tour many of the buildings designed by the great architect.
