As fascinating as Gothenburg is, excursions along the west coast of Sweden can be even better. The Bohuslän Coast north of Gothenburg is called "The Golden Coast," and it's riddled with islands and skerries. This is the most idyllic sailing country in Sweden. The coast of Halland south of Gothenburg is also renowned, and it contains the most chic summer resort in Sweden, the town of Båstad. Here you'll find miles of sandy beaches lined by dunes, especially in Skummeslovsstrand and Melbystrand. Arm yourself with a good map from the Gothenburg Tourist Office before setting out.
