La Tequila

Contemporary and traditional Mexican cooking is on the menu in this large, popular restaurant. You'll find dishes such as a pasta stuffed with shrimp and huitlacoche, and a chamorro adobado (pork shoulder marinated in a chile sauce) wrapped in maguey leaves and cooked in the ground with a wood fire. On my last visit I tried the shrimp in a sweet-and-sour tamarind sauce, as well as tacos "plaza de toros." Both of these were excellent -- the tacos were beef tips and bits of Mexican sausage on fresh tortillas served with their own sauce; the shrimp were tangy and different. The bar, too, has started making original concoctions, such as the "tequilibrio." La Tequila can get pretty lively, and the decorative touches, such as trimmed agaves, give the dining areas a regional point of reference. Indoor/outdoor dining areas and a popular upstairs bar make up most of the restaurant.
