Don't be fooled: This hotel isn't located in its namesake neighborhood. However, Las Peñas is an intimate business-class hotel and a great value. And it's wonderfully located, just a block off Avenida 9 de Octubre, and 5 blocks in either direction from the Malecón 2000 and the Plaza del Centenario. The rooms are rather spartan and the furnishings feel as though they were selected by someone's aging spinster aunt, but you get plenty of space, a privileged location, and enough modern amenities to make your stay perfectly enjoyable. I like the higher floors, where rooms have a bit of a view and are also a bit above the fracas and fray of the street below. The hotel runs a free airport shuttle, with advance notice, and allows guests 30 minutes of free Internet usage at their small business center.
