This cheerful restaurant was one of the first to open on Knutsford Terrace, a narrow lane lined with bars and restaurants on the northern edge of Tsim Sha Tsui. Although the menu runs the gamut from classic paellas to grilled Chilean sea bass with tomato and roast bell-pepper salsa, probably the best thing to do is select from the several dozen tapas on the menu, which can make for wonderful nibbling or out-and-out feasts. Choices include grilled prawns, lamb kabobs, and spinach and cheese in filo pastry.

There are other El Cid branches at Shop G315 Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui (tel. 852/2721 2181; MTR: Tsim Sha Tsui), open daily noon to 11pm; 9-11 Cleveland St., Causeway Bay (tel. 852/2576 8650; MTR: Causeway Bay), open daily noon to 11:30pm; and Shop 102 in the historic Murray House (with great sea views from its delightful terrace), Stanley Plaza, Stanley (tel. 852/2899 0858), open Monday through Friday from noon to midnight and Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 11pm.
